History

Prezilimpia was first organized in 2018 with the purpose of developing the presentation skills of students studying in the field of economy and business and comparing the knowledge of students from different institutions. In the framework of the Hungarian and English language talent show students compete with classic presentations and they have the opportunity to participate in a presentation-karaoke, in which they have to improvise about an unknown slideshow and talk about it smartly and fluently.

The aim of the competition is to develop talented young speakers to become real professionals. Therefore, a panel of experienced judges gives feedback to participants at the end of their presentations both at the regional and at the national round, while a Toastmaster mentor helps the best ones to prepare for the national final.

Prezilimpia 2023

In 2023, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Szeged, in cooperation with the Junior Academy of Szeged, the ‘Ez a beszéd’ Toastmasters Rhetoric Club and the Phillip Morris Hungary, once again organized the traditional higher education presentation competition of the University of Szeged.

This year, students had to create presentations on the topics of conscious consumption, harm reduction and sustainability, in which they present the problem and their related suggestions in an entertaining and meaningful way. We owe the topic to this year’s collaborator, Philip Morris Hungary.

The university competition was traditionally open to all Hungarian higher education institutions, and the qualification for the finals took the form of an online qualifier. The applicants had to submit a video, and according to the competition rules, the selection jury allowed a maximum of half of the number of competitors from the University of Szeged to participate in the final.

The competitors of the University of Szeged could reach the final from the faculty round.

For the 2023 competition, the following 8 faculties of the University of Szeged held successful qualifiers:

ÁJTK – Faculty of Law

SZAOK – Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School

BTK – Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

GTK – Faculty of Economics and Business Administration

GYTK – Faculty of Pharmacy

JGYPK – Juhász Gyula Teacher Training Faculty

MK – Faculty of Engineering

TTIK – Faculty of Sciences and Informatics

At the national selection, the jury judged two more video presentations to be presented at the final, from students of Eötvös Loránd University and Budapest Business School.

8 of the presentations were held in Hungarian and 2 in English.

The traditional individual preparation support of Prezilimpia by Toastmasters mentors was utilized by all finalists.

The final of Prezilimpia took place on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Albert Szent-Györgyi Agora, Informatorium. In addition to Dr. Attila Badó, head of the Junior Academy of the University of Szeged and Tamás Vizi, representative of the Hungary of Philip Moris, András Sváby took on the role of chairman of the jury.

During the finals of the Prezilimpia competition, a traditional and popular entertaining event, Presentation Karaoke, took place again. This year, all finalists entered the event without prior preparation. In the 2 minutes available, they talked about the slides – compiled by the organizers – on the projector in high standards.

The total prizes of the competition exceeded half a million forints.

Testimonials

The reason why I participated in this competition is to challenge myself and improve my ability to speak in front of the audience. Prezilimpia taught me how to be confident while presenting a presentation in front of many people. I am interested in public speaking because I consider it as one of most important skills everyone wishes to have, especially for business people.
(Jamil, SZTE)

Do something you are afraid of! I had been telling myself this, when I applied for the competition. I wanted to improve and the best method for this is to step out of the shadows. I stepped out on the podium and I do not regret any minute of it. The competition and the preparation beforehand helped me to stand confidently in front of a crowd and to be able to defend my views even though other people do not agree with me. I got to love the word of free speech and presentations, and I managed to use the knowledge that I acquired during Prezilimpia on other competitions as well.
(Ádám, BME)

I can honestly say that it was the best competition I had ever participated in and I received the 3rd place in the final national round that has been an exceptional honor for me. Besides the prize, I got a lot of experience and also made new connections.
If you would like to learn new things and finally stand in front of 10, 100 or even 1000 people in a confident way, do not hesitate to apply, because you’ll get these from Prezilimpia!
(Nikolett, ME)

The prospects of presentations always made me excited and the opportunity to present in front of Mr.Prezi himself made it even better. I’ve always felt towards making this world more sustainable and development in transportation is something that I could talk about any time and any day. So when the thoughts of this competition were combined with last year’s topic, I knew I simply had to do my best! I hope I can be part of this competition again and I’m super hyped up to see what this year brings for me!
(Ashish, PTE)

With the digitalization and the transformation of media, it is becoming increasingly important to make ourselves seen and take part in competitions to challenge ourselves. It is not enough to hide ourselves behind our social media posts and videos, but we should be able to present ourselves in real life too. These are the main reasons why I think it is worth to learn how to create a charismatic, authentic and well-built presentation.
During Prezilimpia, the environment was pleasant and welcoming, despite the fact that it was a high-quality competition with exceptional standards. I can encourage everybody to try it!

Good luck to this year’s competitors!
